Rugs | The Foundation For Your Space

The foundation of a room sets the tone of your space and offers a pleasant place under your feet – unless you’re stepping on Legos or bristle blocks – I don’t recommend that. For the ultimate in luxury, spring for a wool rug, and with proper care, it will last for many years. 

The materials used in the rug are an essential consideration – if you have allergies, many opt for wool construction for its durability and timelessness. The durability of wool is incredible, as long as you are willing to accept some growing pains as it adjusts to your space. Wool rug shedding is entirely normal, and you should only do vacuuming without using the beater bar. Wool sourced from Nepal and New Zealand has a higher lanolin content, making them more desirable. 

For those with families or pets, a polypropylene-based rug is your jam. The durability makes them a workhorse for your home and often at a lower-cost investment. My favorite way to deep clean these types is with a hose outside! I also recommend that you only vacuum without using a beater bar and switching directions to encourage the pile to stand tall. It doesn’t get much simpler than that. 

As for the elephant in the room – washable rugs, firstly, they are often low-pile height which means they are pretty thin underfoot. Secondly, they usually have issues with curling at the corners of the attachment point to the base, and if you have OCD like me, it will be a bother. 

Curtains | Transform Your Room

The “shirt” of the room – can blend in or stand out – it’s all about creating the mood for your space. These are a great place to splurge if it’s within the budget, but you can often recreate a luxe look for less. Want to make them look even better? Grab a steamer and watch them transform before your eyes!

I know firsthand how crazy lead times can be these days – but there are multiple options to provide you with quality pieces for less without waiting six months for a sofa!
