A few months back, I looked at my closet and almost burst into tears; I did. I had been making do with an outdated wardrobe after some lifestyle changes and dare I say; I still had items I wore when I was pregnant with my son; he’s now 4. Now, I would be remiss without my trusted stylist for the wardrobe.
Cultivating a wardrobe is like developing a home and styling it to match your aesthetic, desired feel, and function. The cornerstones of good design are function, mood, and harmony. Without it, it just won’t feel “right.”
I reached out to a local fellow business owner with a penchant for nailing your wardrobe style. As I waved my white flag, I imagined it like in the roadrunner cartoons with the “help me” sign. I didn’t just need help; I needed an intervention.
We began much like my own process, with a call to chat about my specific needs and goals, then we planned to shop together to choose pieces that resonated with my style and brand. On shopping day, all I had to do was try stuff on – that’s it.
A style board broke down each individual “look” and showed me how to maximize their use. You guessed it – much like my concept boards! I came away from that day with a few staple pieces and, most importantly, a plan to achieve my goals.
In this previous post, I briefly touched upon my experience, promising to dive deeper into this later. I found so many parallels when experiencing this, and it was different for me not being in the driver’s seat. The visual tools help me feel empowered to make the right choices for my wardrobe and stay within my style parameters. Working with Jessica was like coming home, but in this instance, it was very personal and stepping into someone new, allowing the growth and change to happen. I stepped out of playing small and into taking up space without apologizing. As a mother, this can be a challenge when you find yourself juggling several hats at once and wondering how it’s all going to play out. This experience was an exercise in setting intentions and manifesting what you want.
Here’s a peek at a few of my favorite wardrobe pieces – the white crop pants are my favorite!
My favorite part of the design process is discovering all the details, memorable experiences, and favorite memories that make up your unique experience and style. The mix is beautiful – the earthy and raw, the refined and optimistic – I love it all!
