Entryway Reboot: Week 7 | One Room Challenge Spring 2020

June 18, 2020

I can often be found in the dance studio (or my kitchen) working on my bachata form or creating with my kids and husband, who inspire me daily and are the "why" behind what I do. An avid baker, I am often making a new bread recipe, baking homemade cinnamon rolls, or desperately trying to drink the rest of my coffee while it's hot. My mission? To help others create and cultivate a home that they love!

Week 1 | Week 2 | Week 3 | Week 4 | Week 5/6 |

Here we go! Things are wrapping up! Can you believe that we’re almost there!?

I must have changed my mind about a zillion times on what pieces were going where and what the overall plan was, but I knew I’d find my groove and roll with it. SO without further ado, here’s what happened for Week 7.

Wanting to add a functional and durable place for storing frequently used items, my husband and I compiled a variety of options, but ultimately decided on a simplistic model that will not greatly impact the footprint of the space.

I’ve been wanting to add some sort of natural element into the design, and after the conundrum with the lighting, I leaned fully into adding a wood element. I compiled SO many ideas for this portion, and ultimately decided on using select pine boards and spray paint to add a functional area that we’ll all enjoy. Instead of a storage piece involving a box at the top, we chose to mount a series of planks to the wall and then attach hooks at various increments.

One issue that has been bothering us for some time, were the holes from an outdated security system that was removed during our electrical work. They were a bit much for me to patch and blend due to the texture and my DIY skills to recreate the wall texture…they’re not there yet. Despite this being primarily a cosmetic issue, I wanted to squeeze some more function out of it. I decided to wrap the wood around the corner of the wall and add some additional hooks for keys and other frequently used items. I’m pretty excited for the final result!

Mitered corners, here we come!

It may not be much now, but it’s going to be AMAZING

I’ll share ALL the details on this portion of the project in next week’s post for the big REVEAL!! I cannot believe it’s been almost 8 weeks already! It feels like I still have a million things to do, but, in reality all the pieces are here and I just need to install them.

I’ve been asked about the art print, and I’m going to incorporate a few photos after really falling in love with the two prints together. I’ve taken some amazing photos the two times I’ve been to Puerto Rico, and it feels right to add a few cleverly placed prints to the design. These pieces will be featured at just-the-right height above the wood storage element. I’m always one for efficiency (ok, at least sometimes) and I wanted to use something that had multiple uses. What do you mean? It’s just an art print!?

Except when it isn’t. I want to share these prints with the world, so I chose to make a small order of POSTCARDS. These babies will get mailed and delivered to clients past and future as a way to say “thanks”.

Pretty cool, huh? For the prints in my home, I’m going to place them in a matted frame and voila!

Oh I’m so excited to share this whole refresh!!

Next stop, new front door install, and putting in all the rest of the final touches!!!

Here’s what’s left on the to-do list:

-Install runner and pad

-Install wall storage

-Update/refresh closet door

-Update/replace existing front door

-Install art prints

-Photos!

Cheers!

See you next week for the BIG REVEAL!
