Entryway Reboot: Week Four | One Room Challenge Spring 2020

May 28, 2020

I can often be found in the garage working on my next DIY project or creating with my kids and husband who are a daily inspiration and the "why" behind what I do. An avid baker, I am often making a new bread recipe, baking homemade cinnamon rolls, or desperately trying to drink the rest of my coffee while it's hot. My mission? To help others create and cultivate a home that they love!

hi there!

So this post was originally supposed to be about the wall art and some of my favorite finds along the way of creating my concept…

Here’s what really happened.

While I remained cautiously optimistic that the shade I purchased would arrive on time, it has been still unable to ship. I had to make a choice and now I must use one of my alternates. It’s disappointing, but it’s the regulations in Bali at this point (from the Etsy seller) that are preventing the item from being shipped. I’m sad about it, but I knew this could happen given the circumstances.

During my initial concept creation for the project, I collected a list that I curated to fit my needs in the event one of them didn’t work out. In short, I had a backup plan. The new light fixture is now ordered, and it’s onward to other parts of the design.

Looks like it may get here this Saturday! Yay!!!

For the printed wall art, I’ve decided to have it printed on canvas and then DIY a frame for it for added durability and aesthetics. The original plan wasn’t what I was looking for as they print on paper. I’ll order from a print shop local to me in the coming weeks.

In other news, the closet is cleaned out and I have devised a plan (with the help of my husband) for shoe storage inside, along with additional hooks for hanging heavier items like my purse and the bag we use to haul all the necessities for outings with the kids.

Here’s our idea for the shoe rack that will be placed on the inside left portion of the funky-shaped closet. We don’t have a ton of shoes in circulation at any point in time, so this fits our needs, while allowing us to add an additional shelf if it ever becomes necessary.

A DIY option that allows us to modify it later, if needed.

Oh, and did I mention that I’m also learning how to use SketchUp? Yeah – look out world! My husband drew this model.

I know many of you are wondering what’s up with the mural. Here’s the deal…I’m going to nix what I had said last week and I’m instead, going to continue with the same color (Weekend Upstate by Backdrop) and then I will add something that’s tropical-inspired to the wall that leads up the stairwell. I’ve also decided not to cover my beautiful and bright yellow circle that livens up the doorway. I had originally planned to place the 20×30 print there, however, after taping the boundary I didn’t like how much of the circle it covered.

Here’s what I’m inspired by for the mural:

Let’s see where it goes!

Here’s what’s left on my to-do list:

  • Paint stairwell wall & mural

  • Order & place runner

  • Replace front door

  • Install new light fixture

  • Build, finish, and install closet shelf

  • Install pull-out storage for closet
